A COUNTRY GIRL was the hit of the 1902 London Season. It was Lionel Monckton's first score as principal composer. He would go on to write such hits as The Arcadians, Our Miss Gibbs, and The Quaker Girl. Of all of the composers of the post Gilbert & Sullivan era, his star shone the brightest. With additions from Paul Rubens, and lyrics by Adrian Ross, the score of A Country Girl is pure delight. Wonderful toe-tapping numbers like "Try again Johnnie", "Yo-ho little girls" to the ravishing "Under the Deodar", you will certainly agree "they don't write them like that any more". This is a wonderful journey back in time to the gorgeous Edwardian period. Following on from our phenomenally successful The Arcadians, which was the hit of the Buxton International G&S Festival in 2011, we are certain that we have another winner in A Country Girl.
