One of Gilbert & Sullivan’s most successful and much-loved operas was first performed in 1879 and it hasn’t left the stage since! Its plot concerns what happens when a nursery maid sends young Frederic off to be apprenticed to Pirates instead of Pilots. Now he is about to turn 21 and can return to respectability. He falls in love with Mabel, the beautiful daughter of Major-General Stanley, and is about to join with the local police and arrest the pirates when complications arise, causing much fun and mayhem.
Featuring some of G&S’s best loved numbers including “Poor Wand’ring One”, “I am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General”, “With cat like tread” and “A Policeman’s Lot is not a Happy One”. This is Gilbert & Sullivan at their most entertaining and amusing.
An ideal piece of musical theatre for all the family and a wonderful introduction for young persons to the delights of live theatre and light opera.
Directed with authentic flair by GSOV stalwart RON PIDCOCK, it is not to be missed.
