By remembering Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria Inc (GSSV) in your Will, you give the gift of high-quality live music and theatrical experiences to new audiences and exciting opportunities to our participants on stage, backstage and off stage.

Your bequest means a lasting legacy through benefiting many people.

WHAT IS A BEQUEST?

A Bequest is a donation – a gift – left to a charity of your choice that is given via your Will, as part of your Estate, after your death.

During their lifetime, people may feel that they do not have the means to help others as much as they would like to, whereas a bequest in your estate helps others in the future and does not affect your independence and self-sufficiency today.

A bequest comes in many forms, for instance:

  • A portion of your estate;
  • A sum of money;
  • Property;
  • Stocks and shares;
  • Works of art or valuable collections, and/or
  • A life insurance policy, annuities or trust.

HOW WOULD MY BEQUEST BE USED BY GSSV?

Bequests enable GSSV to plan for its future with confidence and to focus our efforts on better delivering the aims of the Society. Your gift will be directed to support GSSV’s ongoing program of productions ensuring the legacy of WS Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan and their contemporaries. This program also enables emerging performers, creatives and a raft of other arts workers to gain invaluable guidance, tuition and experience.

However, your wishes are important and if you have a particular purpose in mind for your gift, please contact us to discuss your interests.

HOW DO I LEAVE A BEQUEST IN MY WILL?

If you are writing a new Will and you choose to include a gift to GSSV, please do so only after making full provision for your loved ones.

If you already have a Will, you can add a codicil (a legal provision) to include your bequest. For assistance on Will writing and amendment, we recommend that you consult a solicitor, a trustee or accredited Wills and estate specialist, however, here is an example of the type of language you can use:

“I, (insert name) give, devise and bequeath free of all duties and taxes (select the appropriate option/s below):

  1. a) the whole (or _____ %) of the residue of my estate
  2. b) the whole (or _____ %) of my estate

c) the sum of $ _____

d) _____ [insert number] of my _____ [insert name of specific asset(s), e.g. property or shares]

to Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Victoria Inc (ABN 82367025584) of PO Box 2184, Blackburn South, Victoria 3130 (or the registered address), free of all duties and deductions, for its general purposes. The receipt by any authorised officer of that organisation shall be deemed proof of payment to my executors.”

CAN I LET YOU KNOW I AM LEAVING A BEQUEST?

If you have already included a bequest to GSSV in your Will, thank you, and we encourage you to let us know. By letting us know of your pledge, we can ensure we respect your wishes, better plan for the future and, we would be delighted to thank you for your generosity as soon as possible.

Your act of generosity would be recognised online and in publications (unless you wish to remain anonymous.) And, should you wish to make a significant bequest in your Will, we are happy to discuss additional appropriate acknowledgement.

Any information you provide will be treated with respect and confidentiality.
