Celebrating 150 years of Gilbert and Sullivan and 90 years of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Victoria. Featuring Trial By Jury.
Music: Sir Arthur Sullivan
Libretti: W.S. Gilbert
This production in the heart of Melbourne’s theatre district celebrates 90 glorious years of ‘innocent merriment’ from one of Australia’s oldest performing arts groups, Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria, and 150 years of Trial By Jury, which began the most successful partnership that the theatre has known.
Trial By Jury, is “probably the most successful British one-act operetta of all time” (Kurt-Friedrich Gänzl), which starts with a breach of promise of marriage and becomes a frothy courtroom comedy.
We follow this operatic miniature with a witty, musical exploration of the G&S operas with which GSOV has delighted audiences for 90 years.
To be presented by our most brilliant performers, old and new, with a glorious chorus and full orchestra.
Artistic Director: Diana Burleigh
MD: Timothy John Wilson
