Fresh from the roaring success of My Fair Lady, Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Victoria (GSOV) is calling people of all cultural and linguistic backgrounds, all ages fifteen-or-over, to audition for their upcoming season of Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate.

Callbacks

Additional times and video submissions are all feasible. Please let us know if you have difficulty with the proposed times.

What roles are being cast?: All lead and supporting roles, dance corps, and singers and/or movers for the ensemble.

What are the First Round Audition Requirements?:

* A 32-bar cut of a song that is appropriate to the style. Please do not prepare material from the show. Bring a copy of the piano accompaniment for our pianist to play.

*A dance/movement call is required for everyone including those wishing to be considered for the dance corps. Chorus heels or oxfords preferred.

Rehearsal Commitment: Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoon as required, plus additional calls in the fortnight prior to opening night. Rehearsals begin 30 January.

Performances: May 2-5, Alexander Theatre Monash University Clayton.

PAUL — Fred Graham’s dresser, specialty dancer & leader of solo trio for “Too Darn Hot” [any age, any ethnicity, any gender presentation]

LOIS LANE (BIANCA) — a nightclub singer in her first featured role on the stage [playing age 20’s-30s, any ethnicity, female gender presentation]

BILL CALHOUN (LUCENTIO) — a Broadway hoofer, Lois’ partner and a chronic gambler [playing age 20’s-30s, any ethnicity, male gender presentation]

LILLI VANESSI (KATHERINE) — a star stage and screen actress, former wife of Fred Graham [playing age 30s-50s, any ethnicity, female gender presentation]

FRED GRAHAM (PETRUCHIO) — producer & former husband of Lilli [playing age 30s-50s, any ethnicity, male gender presentation]

FIRST GANGSTER — gunman-enforcer & half the donkey for Finale Act Two [any age, any ethnicity, any gender presentation]

SECOND GANGSTER  — gunman-enforcer & half the donkey for Finale Act Two [any age, any ethnicity, any gender presentation]

GREMIO — first suitor; ensemble dancer & motorcyclist; doubles as Flynt, aide to Gen. Howell [any age, any ethnicity, any gender presentation]

HORTENSIO — second suitor; ensemble dancer & motorcyclist; doubles as Riley, aide to Gen. Howell [any age, any ethnicity, any gender presentation]

GENERAL HARRISON HOWELL — career military officer, politician and Lilli’s love interest [any age, any ethnicity, any gender presentation]

STAGEHAND #1 (ELECTRICIAN & CAB DRIVER) — doubles as Nathaniel, servant to Petruchio

STAGEHAND #2 (ASSISTANT ELECTRICIAN) — doubles as Philip, servant to Petruchio

STAGEHAND 33 (CARPENTER & DRIVER FOR GEN. HOWELL) — doubles as Haberdasher

WARDROBE PERSON — ensemble singer

Everyone who is new to GSOV will need to book for the 7th or 8th November (first round singing/acting), and then you may be invited to attend a callback audition.

Movement/dance assessment for everyone will be held on the 9th November in 2 sessions, either 7pm and 8:15pm.

GSOV Members who have worked with Trevor and/or Patrick can book a callback audition directly for 11th, 21st, 22nd, or possibly the 23rd November if needed.
